The ULTIMATE Matte Liquid Lipstick Guide
When it comes to matte lipsticks, there are so many options out there that make it hard to choose what works best for YOU. If you're like me and constantly forget to re-apply your lipstick, a well-invested matte lipstick is a MUST in your makeup collection. Over the past few months, I have bought and reviewed my TOP matte lipsticks (so you don't have to).
Let's be honest, a lip look that works for Instagram models and makeup artists don't always work on everyone. The best way of determining the best look is trial and error (plus blood, sweat, and tears but we'll skip that part). There are the fortunate people who have lips that can wear a lipstick like no other and then there are some people who need a little help. Matte lipsticks are great for creating a false shape and a lip look that lasts all day. For any and all matte lipsticks, use lip scrubs often (as some products dry out the lips) and a lip liner (close to lip color or 1-2 shades darker) prior to wearing a matte lipstick. This helps prevent the product from bleeding and smudging.
On a scale from (1) 💄 lipstick emoji to (5) 💄💄💄💄💄, I will break down cost, value, color selection, and wear-ability for Gerard Cosmetics, Anastasia Beverly Hills, ColourPop, Kylie Cosmetics, DOSE of Color, and Jeffree Star matte lipsticks.

You may not have heard about Gerard Cosmetics, but if you're always scoping out the latest brands on Instagram then you might have heard of them. Gerard's Hydra Matte Liquid Lipsticks are great for a hydrating lip look that doesn't dry out your lips. They last on average 4-5 hours, without retouching. My only "complaint" is it gets a little streaky when applying but just needs an extra lathering. Also, the color selection is pretty small as well as the size of the tube. You can find a small selection of Gerard's Hydra Matte Liquid Lipsticks at Ricky's and online.
Side Note: This company is very good at bundles of products. You can find 2x the amount of lipsticks and other makeup for half the cost!

You can't go wrong with ColourPop! They have a WIDE range of Ultra Matte Lipsticks with the perfect pairings of creamy lip pencils all for under $10. Most liquid lipsticks on the market are $20+ so most people assume for a $6 liquid lipstick it must not be so good. In fact, ColourPop lipsticks work best when paired with a lip liner to prevent lips from being extra dry. Their formula is very thin so layering the product gets you the maximum use. The wear is around 5-6 hours without retouching. Some colors are more drying than others but for the cost and range -- it's my top pick for everyday wear.

Kylie's Lip Kit is far from my number one choice. Kylie's kits sell out fast and are a hassle to get your hands on. With these liquid lipsticks you NEED to scrub, moisturize, and line your lips prior to use. The need to retouch is very minimal, even when eating a full meal. My favorite colors are Kourt K and True Brown. I did purchase Posie K but it is the most drying formula, making it my least favorite. For the wait, high demand, frustrating applicators, and limited choices for a high cost -- Kylie Lip Kit is far from my go-to.
Side Note: I have 2 of Kylie's Lip Glosses and they do pair nicely with the matte lipsticks.

You can't go wrong with the QUEEN of liquid matte lipsticks! I have over 10 ABH liquid lipsticks ( almost as much as ColourPop) in my collection and counting. For the size, coating, wear-ability, and color range, Anastasia Beverly Hills is one of the best liquid lipstick lines -- making it worth the cost. Like Kylie's Lip Kit, ABH liquid lipstick sell out fast but are available in more locations. Like Gerard's Hydra-Matte Lipsticks, these lipsticks apply smoothly, dry with enough time to layer more product, and, when lined properly, do not bleed. A+ all around for these liquid lipsticks.

I'm fairly new to DOSE but so far I enjoy the look and feel of their selection. You do receive a small amount for $18 but a lot goes a long way with DOSE. The colors are vibrant and last long. Ive had no trouble with bleeding with or without a liner. Definitely worth the price!

JEFFREE STAR! These Matte Lipsticks are perfect for going out and not worrying about re-applying. I discovered his collection at the Morphe store in LA and it is money well spent. Although his formula dries pretty fast, I guarantee, the color will not budge for as long as you wear it. Like DOSE, the packaging is small but the colors are compact, vibrant, and makes a statement. He also has a wide range of bold and risque colors making it fun and appealing for everyone.
