Summer Skincare Survival Guide

Summer is here! Now we all love Summer, until it becomes too 🔥 hot 🔥 and you're melting on the sidewalks of NYC. Before you start whining about how you wish it were Winter, I've got a few tips and products to help combat the unbearable heat while looking like a normal human being in 100 Degrees. On my recent trip to Florida, I brought along a few of the items listed below but I also discovered some new products to help keep my natural skin fresh, clean, and pore-less -- equaling in "no makeup, no problem."

Check out my top skincare picks to keep you "cool for the summer" and flawless, with or without makeup.

Sunday Riley: Luna Sleeping Oil

Cost: $105

They don't call it beauty sleep for nothing! Start your summer nights off with a cleansed face (no makeup remaining). One mistake that, even I'm guilty of, is not using a face oil before I go to sleep. Using a moisturizer, oil, or cream, before/during sleep helps the skin work while you're not working. (I will do a post on getting the best beauty rest BUT, in the meantime, I will recommend getting an 8 hour sleep daily really helps your skin rested and young). In the mornings, toxins surface the skin, which is why its always best to shower and wash your face in the AM -- a boost from a moisturizer, oil, or cream in the night will help more harmful toxins leave your body.  The below is an excerpt from Sunday Riley's product description (which sums up all the amazing quality this product contains):

"Luna Sleeping Night Oil contains high potency, purified grade lactic acid to instantly correct dullness, plump the look of lines, and exfoliate the skin. With continued use, the appearance of stubborn hyper-pigmentation, imperfections, and the visible signs of aging are reduced for a healthy-looking complexion. Enhanced with licorice for brightening, it helps to clarify and correct the appearance of imperfections for immediate, smooth radiance."

Based on research done by Sephora, Luna Sleeping Night Oil is also clinically proven to improve skin radiance, fine lines, and smoothness in 4 weeks. Also, the lactic acid in most Sunday Riley products really helped me kill off any pimples that arise -- even the tough ones that leave scars. This line of face oil is pretty expensive but for a more cost effective alternative I would recommend using Tarte's Maracuja Oil ($48). My recommendation is using Tarte's Maracuja Oil daily (AM & PM) and Sunday Riley nightly 2-3 times a week.

Side Note: I cannot wait to try the Farsali Rose Gold Elixir -- I've heard great things about this face oil including the glow it helps give your makeup.

PETER THOMAS ROTH Irish Moor Mud Purifying Black Mask

Cost: $58

Let's be real -- New York is pretty gross in the summertime. Not only are you sweating often, but bacteria and other germs are susceptible to attract to your skin and body, as you're more exposed. I've been using PETER THOMAS ROTH Irish Moor Mud Purifying Black Mask daily to purify, decongestant, and hydrate my face after I remove my makeup. This product cleanses deep and removes any remaining "gunk", on days where I need more of a scrub. It's gentle and leaves skin feeling fresh. This product pairs nicely with Kate Somerville's ExfoliKate, which is a fine coarse face expositors to help brighten dull skin, cleanse pores, and helps dark spots/even tone. It's also great for exfoliating blackheads around the nose.

OLE HENRIKSEN Grease Relief Face Tonic

Cost: $24

Toners are the best thing ever invented. Toners with an astringent are even better to help tone, strip skin of oils, and helps remove toxins and built up germs on the surface of the skin. I use this Ole Henriksen toner at least 2-3x a day. For heat bumps, that often appear during the summer and pesky acne, this toner has the right amount of salicylic acid to rid the appearance of enlarged pores and pimples but not so much that it burns the skin.  If you have oily skin, I would recommend using this toner before makeup application and after makeup removal.

TARTE Rainforest of the Sea Marine Boosting Mist

Cost: $25

This is the BEST mist I've ever own -- it's a must have in your skincare kit. This four-in-one product acts as a primer, makeup setting spray, hydrating mist, and skin refresher. Not only does this natural spray make your makeup last up to 12+ hours but it also helps your skin radiate, refresh, and helps minimize the appearance of pores, redness, and puffiness. It's filled with antioxidants and a hypoallergenic formula that also helps shield skin from daily aggressors. This is perfect for the summer to cool/refresh skin or in the winter to hydrate dry skin. It also comes in a handy travel size bottle for on the go facial refreshers. For my girls & guys out there that love the natural look but hate all the fuss, I would easily recommend this product.

Side Note: I also saw an improvement with the scarring on my face. Small blemishes had became lighter and started to fade after a few weeks. I also picked up a bottle of Skindinavia spray, as I was told this would help prevent my makeup from melting (will keep you all posted).

Supergoop!

Cost: $13

Instead of using those harsh sunscreens, try a more natural formula in a spray/mist form like Supergoop! Antioxidant-Infused Sunscreen Mist. This spray is fused with Vitamin C and has SPF 50. I used this on my recent trip to Florida and I managed to walk away without burnt skin(#winning). This spray also pairs nicely with TARTE Tarteguard 30 Sunscreen Lotion -- I used on my face under my makeup and moisturizer.

Safe Summer skincare ya'll ☀️
