TY-LITE vs. LuMee Case: A Debate In Beauty Tech
But first let me take a selfie 📷
If you are a stickler for the PERFECT selfie, you've probably already heard about the LuMee or Ty-Lite. If not, you've come to the right place to find out more about the latest buzz in beauty + tech.
How many times have you ever needed a light for a selfie and end up with a mediocre, blurry, but "okay" picture? 🙋🙋🙋 I'm sure you've been there. When I first heard about phone cases that lit up, I immediately wanted one. Why? Mostly because I feel confident when I know I can take a GOOD picture and not have to worry about where I am at to do so. Also, Ive spent many years taking pictures with people on red carpets, events, and wished I had better lighting.
Now that there are options out there -- which one is the BEST one to purchase? Ty-Lite or the LuMee Case?
You've probably heard about the LuMee case as the "Kim Kardashian" phone case, if not then I've saved you the trouble. The case has an LED strip of light around its edges, with open areas on the side to easily access your buttons. They come in a variety of case colors and super light weight. It also charges with a universal charger but how long is lasts for is undetermined. The logo is imprinted on the back, making it a bit ugly for bragging about your latest & cute phone case. The light is controlled by one button on the back -- press and hold to change the brightness/dim the light. My only concern is that the light is very warm and not flattering if you already have a yellow/red undertone. My case is a very fashionable Rose Gold and you know what they say -- beauty is pain. After two weeks of my phone being in the case, it slipped right out of my hands and my phone screen shattered. This didn't happen because I was clumsy (because I am) it was because the case had no grip at all. Although this case comes up to an estimated $60, it's a one trick type of case that I would only recommend to get if 1) You take the BEST pictures in warm light and 2) You are very careful with your phone and carry it in your bag vs your hand.
The Ty-Lite, created by 🍋 Beyonce's 🍋 stylist, Ty Hunter, is a force to be reckoned with. Think of a way an Otterbox is built but can light up 3 different ways. The Ty-Lite offers users three distinct light settings: Cool, Warm, and Brilliant to accommodate any light in any environment. Users can also dim the brightness in each light setting to their preferred level of brightness. Depending on it's usage, the battery life lasts about two weeks to a month. The case comes in a variety of size options for iPhone and Andriod users. The LED light is protected by a thick silicone over it but doesn't affect how the phone is captured. The silicone helps the case from slipping from your hands and protects your phone and the built in light. Because of it's options, protection, and style -- Ty-Lite is my choice of the two types of lit phone cases. The case is around $80 but a far better bargain than the LuMee case.
Hope this helped you on your journey to determine which phone case is better for showing off your makeup look, red carpet glam, or just hanging out with friends. No more going to Snapchat for a selfie light!
