Why Do Women Struggle With Weight?
I used to think that I had to look a certain way to attract a man into my life. As I've gotten older, I've come to terms that in no way shape or form should I change the way that I look in order to impress someone else. No one should have to justify they way they look or how they choose to look to anyone else.
Whether you are female by birth or spirit, I believe that it is important for us to understand our body and take care of it. Women come in all different sizes and shapes from skinny, tall, short, curvy, slim, voluptuous, to a combination. No matter what, our weight is something that we struggle with daily.
Some men try to understand that with all that we women do, from work, school, family, friends, children, etc. We can endure childbirth and that says a lot about how much we as women can handle. No matter how much all these challenges can get in the way the only way we can do our best in each one is if we feel good about ourselves. Taking that extra 15-30 minutes a day to get up early to workout, to get to class on time, to work early, to make a healthy breakfast or even spend time with a loved one can make a difference in our lives. We already have the power to operate at our best, its just a matter of believing in it.
Ive struggled with my weight my entire life. I was skinny for the first eight years and over weight for the past thirteen. I've come to accept the fact that the only person that can change how I look is me. I've been bullied, insulted, and humiliated and what worse about it is that it mostly came from me. Granted people did treat me this way but what made it hurt is that I started believing in them. Believing in the hurt gives it more power than you.
Once you've accepted the way you look then you will be able to move on to the next step: loving yourself. If you aren't happy with your body, then change it! Like I said, you don't need to justify it to anyone else. We are given one body as our vessel in this life and its import to keep it healthy and long lasting. So my challenge to all the women out there is to embrace your body. The media, society, peers, and even yourself, will pressure you to be a certain size but I say that no one has the right to change you only yourself.
In the words of my TV heroine, Wendy Williams, "I'm a grown woman, I change my mind as much as I like" The only person stopping you from being the best you is YOU!
